Meet Dr. Haider Aljewari
Board-Certified Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon
Haider Aljewari, DMD, MS, is a board-certified periodontist with advanced training in periodontology, dental implant surgery, and periodontal plastic surgery. His care philosophy is centered on precision, comfort, and long-term oral health, with treatment tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
Dr. Aljewari provides a comprehensive range of periodontal and surgical procedures, including treatment of periodontal and gingival disease, dental implant placement and associated treatments, orthodontic-related periodontal procedures, crown lengthening and gingivectomy for excessive gingival display, often referred to as a gummy smile, frenectomy, guided tissue regeneration, bone regeneration, osseous surgery, ridge augmentation, soft tissue and gum grafting, tori removal or reduction, biopsy, and laser dentistry. He also provides care for temporomandibular disorders, including occlusal adjustment, pharmacologic management, and botulinum toxin therapy when appropriate. Patients receive clear pre-operative guidance and support in addressing surgical questions or concerns. For patients who feel anxious about dental care, sedation options and gentle techniques are available to help create a calmer and more comfortable experience.
Dr. Aljewari graduated from the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad in 2005. He later continued his dental education in the United States, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 2016. He then completed his advanced residency training in periodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 2019, where he earned his Master of Science and completed his thesis titled, “Translocation of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Associated Islet Alterations in Mice and Human Pancreas.” His thesis research contributed to the emerging literature on pancreatic islet-cell plasticity by examining the association between the periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis and the appearance of bihormonal cells in pancreatic islets, supporting broader investigation into the connection between periodontal disease and systemic health.
His scholarly contributions also include publications examining the effect of chronic oral exposure to periodontal pathogens on brain inflammation, neurodegeneration, and amyloid beta production, as well as publications addressing the oral and dental considerations for patients with sickle cell disease. Dr. Aljewari also serves as a peer reviewer for PLOS ONE, contributing to the evaluation of scientific research in the broader biomedical literature.
From routine periodontal care to advanced surgical treatment, Dr. Aljewari is committed to providing precise, compassionate, and evidence-based care focused on each patient’s long-term oral health.
